Biography

Richard’s roles include directing Oxford modules for the Archbishop Tutu Leadership Programme aimed at next-generation leaders in sub-Saharan Africa and the Academic Leadership Development Programme for Indian university leaders. He co-directs a programme for the Hong Kong Jockey Club focused on social workers in Hong Kong. As a fellow at St Cross College, he directs the Chevening Indian and Sri Lankan fellowship programmes for the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, specifically in science, innovation, and leadership (CRISP), and hosts the Gurukul Programme for Leadership Excellence within the Department of Politics and International Relations. Richard studied history and law at Cambridge and has a background in Persian studies. His early professional experience includes working as a diplomat and civil servant, and in the 1990s, he served as an administrator in the Department of Materials where he contributed to the establishment of the University of Oxford’s Science Park Begbroke before becoming the chief operating officer of Saïd Business School. Additionally, Richard has worked in the water industry as an economic consultant and as a specialist journalist. He is also a non-executive director at Oxford Archaeology Ltd, a major independent archaeology and heritage practice.
