Biography

Dr. Cohen received his MD degree from Harvard Medical School in 1976 and his PhD in Physics from MIT in the same year. He pursued clinical training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he became board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Currently, he is the Whitaker Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Emeritus at the Institute of Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) and is affiliated with the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences Technology (HST) program. His extensive career includes serving as Associate Physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and directing multiple initiatives in biomedical engineering and health sciences technology. He has taught numerous courses related to biomedical enterprise and has industry experience consulting for biomedical companies. Dr. Cohen has focused his research on applying physics and engineering to solve problems in biology and medicine, particularly in developing cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. He has published over 275 papers and holds more than 40 patents in this field.
