Dr. Richard Cohen

Biography

Richard Cohen, MD, is an Emeritus Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and a leading researcher in the field of Vascular Biology. He completed his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University and has served as the Director of the Vascular Biology Unit at Boston University. Dr. Cohen is well-recognized for his contributions to the understanding of the effects of vascular metabolic disease on blood vessel function, particularly the roles of endothelium-derived nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species in cardiovascular health. He leads several NIH-funded studies and has received multiple honors, including the R37 MERIT award from the NHLBI. Dr. Cohen is the founding president of the American Federation for Medical Research and has been elected as a Fellow of the American Physiological Society. His research interests include redox-mediated post-translational modifications in cardiovascular proteins and their implications for diseases such as atherosclerosis and hypertension. In addition to his research, he has contributed to numerous editorial boards and continues to mentor the next generation of researchers.
