Professor Cook qualified BDS Honours from the University of London, Guy’s Hospital in 1989 and has a wealth of experience in the field of oral medicine. After working as a House Surgeon and SHO, he graduated with the FDS (Gold Medal) from the Royal College of Surgeons England in 1993 and took a lecturer post at Guy’s Dental School. He later transferred to the University of Birmingham to complete his medical degree, gaining the MRCS from Edinburgh after two years in junior medical positions. He returned to Guy’s Campus at King’s College London to pursue a PhD as a Clinician Scientist funded by the MRC while continuing his training as a consultant in Oral Medicine under an NIHR Clinical Fellowship. He achieved his Fellowship in Dental Surgery (Oral Medicine) from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2008 and went on to take a consultant post at Guy’s in 2009, while also completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice, earning a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. His research interests include opto-diagnostics, applications of non-invasive imaging techniques for disease screening and monitoring, and he has published extensively on these topics. He serves as the Academic Lead in Oral Medicine within King’s Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, focusing on enhancing educational resources for dental students and advancing clinical practice in oral health care.
