Biography

Richard Dendy is a Professor of Physics at the University of Warwick, where he serves as the Director of the Centre for Fusion, Space Astrophysics. He has a distinguished career in theoretical plasma physics, previously acting as a Senior Theoretical Plasma Physicist at the UKAEA Culham Centre for Fusion Energy from 2016 to 2022. He has also held the position of Chair of the Plasma Physics Division of the European Physical Society from 2005 to 2022. His editorial contributions include serving as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion. Dendy has actively participated in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessments, contributing to both the 2021 and 2014 panels in Physics. In addition to his work in the UK, he has been appointed as an Honorary Professor of Physics at Kyushu University in Japan. His research interests focus on fusion and space astrophysical plasma physics, particularly in the dynamics of fusion-born ion populations and magnetically confined plasmas, with a keen interest in turbulent nonlinear plasma phenomena and their interpretation through modelling and data analysis.
