Biography

Emeritus Professor Richard Fox specialized in law, particularly in criminal procedure and sentencing offenders, within the Australian federal criminal justice system. He holds a Doctor of Laws from Monash University, a Master of Laws, and a Diploma of Criminology from the University of Melbourne. Following his retirement in March 2006, he was appointed Emeritus Professor, continuing his association with the Faculty of Law. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor at the Centre of Criminology and the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto, Canada, and was a Fulbright Fellow at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. His consultancy work includes contributions to the Law Reform Commission of Canada and Australia's Royal Commission into the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, among other organizations. He was also a foundation member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology and served as Chairman of the Board of Management at the Australian Institute of Criminology from 1998 to 2011. His recent publication is 'Victorian Criminal Procedure: State Federal Law (15th edn),' published by Federation Press in 2019.
