Biography

Professor Holt’s current research interests are broadly focused on clinical diabetes, specifically encompassing studies of the relationship between mental illness and diabetes, as well as diabetes in pregnancy. His clinical responsibilities include overseeing a diabetes pregnancy clinic, a young adult diabetes clinic, and a cystic fibrosis-related diabetes service. Professor Holt has served as Editor-in-Chief of Diabetic Medicine (2016-2020) and was the past Chair of the Council of Health Care Professionals for Diabetes UK. In 2008, he was a member of the NICE diabetes pregnancy guideline development group and played a key role in the development of the NICE Type 2 diabetes: preventing progression of pre-diabetes programme. Additionally, he was the Editor-in-Chief for the 5th edition of the Textbook of Diabetes. Professor Holt also serves as Vice-Chair for the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Committee on Clinical Affairs and co-chairs the EASD-ADA consensus report on the management of type 1 diabetes in adults.
