Biography

Richard Huntley is a percussionist and lecturer at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin. He has performed in 30 countries and participated in major jazz and world music festivals. Huntley has collaborated with notable jazz musicians such as John Benitez, Ron Blake, and Esperanza Spalding, as well as Brazilian piano legend Dom Salvador. His musical collaborations extend to various genres, including work with the Gangbe Brass Band from Benin and Tuvan throat singing ensembles. He has produced recordings that highlight his diverse musicality, including the piano trio 'The Art Hang' and 'Evolution Stories.' In addition to his performance career, Huntley conducts clinics at music schools across Denmark and Japan and serves as a yearly guest teacher at Brødby music school in Copenhagen. His research focuses on Afro-Cuban folkloric music and batá drumming, with extensive studies conducted in Havana. He holds a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and has been teaching for 12 years at the University of Texas.
