Biography

Dr. Richard Isaac is an Assistant Professor at Boston University in the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Biochemistry & Cell Biology. He employs a multidisciplinary approach that combines genomics, bioinformatics, and in vitro biochemistry to explore biological processes. Dr. Isaac completed his Ph.D. in the laboratory of Dr. Geeta Narlikar at the University of California, San Francisco, where he studied HP1 proteins and their diverse roles in heterochromatin establishment and maintenance. He further advanced his research as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Stirling Churchman's lab at Harvard Medical School, where he developed an innovative technique called mtFiber-seq, which maps mitochondrial DNA at the level of nucleotide resolution. His curriculum vitae includes several awards for academic excellence, including the TETRAD Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award and the Richard Kaufman ’58 Memorial Prize for leadership in academic excellence.
