Biography

Professor Jackman holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Southampton and completed his PhD in Surface Science in 1986. He was a Royal Society Elizabeth Challenor Research Fellow at the University of Oxford from 1986 to 1989, during which he held a Junior Research Fellowship at Linacre College, Oxford. He joined University College London (UCL) in 1989 as a Lecturer in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, where he established a research group focused on diamond electronic devices, a pioneering topic at UCL. Professor Jackman advanced through academic ranks, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 1993, a Reader in Electronics in 1996, and attaining a Personal Chair in Electronic Devices in 2008. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Engineering and Technology and has served as chair of the British Vacuum Council. His extensive work includes serving on committees for the Institute of Physics’s Semiconductor Physics group and editorial boards for journals such as Semiconductor Science and Technology. He has organized numerous international conferences and has published over 230 journal papers and 250 conference papers. Professor Jackman has mentored 42 PhD students and contributed to the academic literature with a co-edited book and multiple chapters.
