Biography

Richard Kronick is a Professor at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at the University of California, San Diego. His career spans academia and government, demonstrating a commitment to using health services research to improve healthcare delivery. Kronick's research primarily focuses on the causes and consequences of lack of health insurance, the development and implementation of risk-adjusted payment systems to encourage healthcare systems to respond to the needs of vulnerable populations, and the design and evaluation of health care financing interventions. He served in the Obama Administration from 2010 to 2016, where he held the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) and worked on implementing the Affordable Care Act. He was also the Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) from 2013 to 2016. Kronick was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2014 and has received a special recognition award from Academy Health for his leadership at AHRQ during its Annual Research Meeting in 2016.
