Dr. Richard Langley

Biography

Richard Langley is a professor and director of graduate studies in the Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering at the University of New Brunswick (UNB), where he has been teaching and conducting research since 1981. He holds a B.Sc. in applied physics from the University of Waterloo and a Ph.D. in experimental space science from York University, Toronto. Prior to obtaining his Ph.D., Langley worked in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, focusing on geodetic applications of lunar laser ranging and very long baseline interferometry. He has extensive experience with the Global Positioning System (GPS) and is a co-author of the best-selling 'Guide to GPS Positioning.' Langley has also contributed as a columnist and editor for GPS World magazine and engaged in numerous consulting roles for private companies and government agencies in Canada and abroad. He has held significant positions within national and international geodesy organizations and has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Johannes Kepler lifetime achievement award from the Institute of Navigation. His research interests include GPS technology and applications, ionospheric studies, and atmospheric modeling, specifically concerning the tropospheric and ionospheric effects on GPS signals.
