Biography

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Newcastle, England, in 1984. He has been an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and now a Professor at the University of Southern California since 1985. He serves as the Director of the Signal Image Processing Institute at USC and has held various editorial positions, including Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging since 1989. His research interests focus on the application of signal image processing theory for the analysis of biomedical images. His research group develops computational methods for the formation and analysis of positron emission tomography (PET) images, with applications in clinical oncology and gene expression imaging in small animals. Dr. Leahy has a long-standing interest in the automated segmentation and labeling of neuroanatomical images, supported by major institutions like the National Cancer Institute and others. His work has contributed to the freely available software package, BrainStorm, utilized by the research community.
