Biography

Richard MacKellar is a venture capitalist and recovering entrepreneur currently serving as the Managing Partner at Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital. He has held board responsibilities at Enbala Power Networks and GlassPoint, as well as NanoSteel. Richard has previously worked as the CEO of UBC spin-off companies, NxtPhase and BrightSide. Before his entrepreneurial ventures, he was an Engineering Manager at a start-up and has an early career background as a metallurgist working with large steam turbine generators and as a materials manager for large power transformers. In the classroom, Richard aims to bring real-life experiences to his students, helping them build, finance, and exit their start-up companies. Outside of his professional life, Richard enjoys the mountains and is involved in organizing Test Metal, Canada’s largest mountain bike race.
