Biography

Richard Maclure holds a Ph.D. in International Development Education from Stanford University and a graduate teacher certificate from the University of London, U.K. He has completed a SSHRC-funded study on youth participation in Senegal and is currently coordinating an IDRC-funded research project on youth social capital formation, with case studies in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Canada. His publications have appeared in journals such as Comparative Education, the Journal of Latin American Studies, the Harvard Educational Review, and the Journal of Youth Studies. Prior to his academic career, Professor Maclure taught in secondary schools in Nigeria and the Canadian Arctic, and subsequently worked as a field director for PLAN International in Burkina Faso and as a program officer for the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). He has also served as a consultant for international aid organizations including CIDA, UNICEF, and the World Bank.
