Richard Manzon is a Professor at the University of Regina, specializing in environmental and stress physiology, endocrinology, and fish biology. His research group investigates how fish, as vertebrates, respond to internal and external environmental changes, with a focus on physiological and developmental aspects. The primary aim of his research is to understand how environmental changes can modulate endocrine physiology, metabolism, and stress responses, ultimately affecting the performance and survival of fish during major developmental events. His work is characterized by a multidisciplinary and integrative approach, employing tools from physiology, protein biochemistry, and molecular cellular biology. Manzon’s ongoing and future research is centered on four major themes: thermal and hypoxic stress physiology in economically and socially valuable fish, thyroidal regulation of development and metabolism in fish, the development and evolution of hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid and glucocorticoid axes, and the biological and physiological consequences of catch-and-release angling. He is currently seeking new graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to join his research group.
