Dr. Richard Martin

Biography

Richard M Martin is a Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Bristol and an Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. With qualifications including B.Med.Sci., B.M., B.S. from Nottingham, M.Sc. from London, and a PhD, he has a robust background in epidemiological research, particularly concerning prostate cancer. His current research focuses on the etiology of prostate cancer, examining metabolic factors such as the insulin-like growth factor system, and aims to develop predictive models for disease progression and low-toxicity lifestyle interventions for cancer prevention. Martin leads various significant studies, including the Cancer Antigen Prostate (CAP) trial, which involves a large-scale, population-based cluster randomized trial on PSA testing, and the PROBIT trial examining the long-term effects of breastfeeding in the Republic of Belarus. He has received substantial funding for research innovations and is actively involved in understanding the causal relationships in observational studies related to drug effects and cancer outcomes. Martin collaborates with several institutions and experts in the field, encompassing a range of research areas including nutrition, drug epidemiology, and cancer epidemiology.
