Biography

Richard Morton is a Senior Lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture, having led the BA3 Infrastructure Space Atelier. He completed his BA in Architecture in 2004, followed by a B.Arch in 2007 and an MA in 2008. Since then, Richard has worked in academia alongside industry roles, specializing in security and mobile communication technologies. He began his PhD at Lancaster University in 2016 while continuing as an associate lecturer at MSA. He was appointed a full-time senior lecturer in August 2019, and he completed his PhD in 2020. Richard's research interests center on the intersection of digital networks and transformative technology within urban contexts. Notably, he has led projects examining the feasibility of using 3G and 4G platforms for the Emergency Services Network, and he was involved in the Scottish Life Sciences award-winning project focusing on digital healthcare in rural areas. His ongoing research delves into the ethical implications and potential impacts of new digital technologies in urban settings, particularly regarding autonomous vehicles and their integration into society.
