Biography

Richard Mourne is a Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of the West of England, Bristol. He completed his BSc (Hons) in Geography and Applied Physics at Manchester Polytechnic in 1987 and obtained his PhD from Edinburgh University in 1993. His doctoral research focused on measurement of radionuclides and soil use indicators related to acidic deposition, particularly in Highland areas of Scotland and Northern England. Following his full-time studies, Richard worked on archaeological excavations in Wales and Switzerland, and he conducted laboratory analyses of cave sediments at Manchester Polytechnic as part of his expertise in geoarchaeology. In 1994, he accepted a position at UWE Bristol, where he analyzes sediments from the Pontnewydd Cave Project, which is managed by the National Museum Wales, while also supporting the teaching of physical geography. Over the years, he has taken on wider teaching duties and became a full-time lecturer in 2001, currently leading the Construction and Property Foundation Year within the geography program.
