Dr. Richard Myers

Biography

Richard H. Myers is a Professor Emeritus at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Neurology. He has an extensive academic background with a PhD, MA, and MEd from Georgia State University and a BA from the University of Kansas. Throughout his career, Dr. Myers has focused on genetic research methods, especially in connection with adult-onset diseases like Parkinson’s disease, hypertension, coronary heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease. His significant contributions include participating in the cloning of the Huntington’s disease gene in 1993 and leading a genome scan project for Parkinson’s disease, which involved collaboration among multiple clinical centers. Dr. Myers has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles and has secured multiple NIH-funded grants, totaling 38. He has a long-standing affiliation with the New England Huntington’s Disease Center since its inception in 1980 and has mentored numerous talented students and post-doctoral fellows during his distinguished career. Dr. Myers officially retired in 2020, although he remains engaged with his research interests.
