Biography

Richard Naud received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Physics from McGill University. He completed his doctoral studies at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where he designed statistical methods for the automatic characterization of neuronal dynamics. In parallel, he co-organized the Spike-Timing Prediction Challenge, a benchmarking comparison of mathematical neuron models. After obtaining his Ph.D. in 2011, he developed quasi-renewal theory, which allows for the decoding of neural responses in the presence of adaptation. Following this, he earned a post-doctoral scholarship from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT) to work with André Longtin at the University of Ottawa, where he identified the computational roles of active dendrites in sensory system inhibition. He also worked as a research assistant at the Technische Universität Berlin, continuing his research on the computational roles of active dendrites in the neocortex. He has been a part of the University of Ottawa since 2016.
