Richard Palin is an Associate Professor of Petrology in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford. He completed his DPhil (PhD) in 2013, with research focused on the thermal structural evolution of parts of the Himalayan Range and Tibetan Plateau. Following his doctorate, he worked as a lecturer and postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Geosciences at JGU Mainz, after which he joined the Colorado School of Mines as an Assistant Professor of Metamorphic Geology. In 2020, he returned to Oxford as an Associate Professor. His research primarily focuses on metamorphic petrology, integrating aspects of geochemistry, isotope geochronology, and structural geology. Major research interests include mechanisms affecting fluid–rock interactions in metamorphic environments and geodynamic settings, as well as the development of new computational techniques for petrological modeling of early Earth evolution.
