Biography

Richard Pearson is a Professor of Ecology in the Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment at University College London. He holds a Doctorate from the University of Oxford, obtained in 2004. Pearson was a research scientist at the American Museum of Natural History from 2005 to 2013 and has an extensive background in biodiversity and environmental change. As Associate Director (Research) in the Division of Biosciences, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic research objectives of the division and contributes to a community of approximately 500 staff and 300 PhD students. Pearson has been recognized as one of the world's Highly Cited Researchers in the field of Environment/Ecology, with a research focus that includes how biodiversity responds to climate change and evolutionary biogeography. He is actively involved in teaching biodiversity conservation and has served as a contributing author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Additionally, Pearson holds editorial responsibilities for the journal Global Change Biology and is a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Climate Change Specialist Group.
