Dr. Richard Pierce

Biography

Richard Pierce is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine, specializing in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at Oberlin College, followed by a Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry and his Medical Doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His pediatric residency was completed at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, and he underwent a pediatric critical care fellowship at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital. Pierce is dedicated to providing excellent patient care and educating trainees. His research centers on blood vessel dysfunction in critically ill children, focusing on conditions such as capillary leak syndrome and vascular permeability. He utilizes cutting-edge techniques to explore the regulation of endothelial junctional molecules and investigates the clinical mechanisms behind endothelial dysfunction. Pierce is actively involved in several educational endeavors, providing formal lectures and developing curriculum materials. His contributions to the field are recognized through numerous collaborations and ongoing research projects aimed at developing new therapies to improve the lives of critically ill children.
