Dr. Richard Possemato

Biography

Richard L. Possemato is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at New York University. His laboratory focuses on identifying metabolic pathways that are altered in the transformed state, understanding the contexts—environmental, genetic, and epigenetic—in which these pathways operate, and investigating how metabolic perturbations affect processes such as nucleotide synthesis and DNA replication. Dr. Possemato has a particular interest in iron homeostasis and iron-sulfur cluster metabolism. His research employs a combination of genetic screening techniques, mammalian cell culture, and metabolomic methods to tackle these pressing scientific questions. His work aims at pushing the boundaries of our understanding of cancer metabolism, particularly in the context of breast cancer. He holds a PhD from Harvard University and has served as a postdoctoral researcher in the Whitehead Institute at MIT, in the Sabatini Lab.
