Biography

Rand joined the Cornell faculty in 1967, receiving his doctorate from Columbia University. He served as a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley in 1981 and at UCLA in 1989. He has received numerous teaching awards from the Engineering College at Cornell, including multiple honors in 1986, 1993, 1995, 2005, and 2008, as well as the Mathematics Department's teaching award in 2013. Rand is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including the Journal of Vibration Control and the International Journal of Nonlinear Mechanics. His current research focuses on perturbation methods and bifurcation theory to derive approximate solutions for differential equations in nonlinear dynamics applicable in engineering and biology.
