Richard Reynolds graduated from King's College, London University, with a BSc in Pharmacology in 1978 and completed his PhD in Neuropharmacology in 1981. He joined Imperial College London in 1986, receiving a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellowship in 1988. He became a Professor of Cellular Neurobiology in 2000 at the Wolfson Neuroscience Laboratories, located at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus of Imperial College. Since 2009, he has held the position of Adjunct Professor of Neuroscience at the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Sciences at the National University of Ireland Galway. In 2015, he was appointed Visiting Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is the Director of the UK Multiple Sclerosis Society Tissue Bank, established in 1998, focusing on fundamental mechanisms of demyelination and neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis (MS). His extensive research utilizes human brain tissues for developing novel therapeutic approaches. Reynolds collaborates with the biopharmaceutical industry to investigate pathophysiological processes and has contributed to several important translational works in treating MS. He is dedicated to understanding the factors behind neuronal loss and potential repair mechanisms, and his ongoing studies analyze cellular interactions to promote remyelination in the adult central nervous system.
