Biography

Richard Salter KC is a practising barrister at 3 Verulam Buildings Gray's Inn. He was called to the Bar in 1975 and became a Bencher of the Inner Temple in 1991. In 1995, he took silk and in 2000 was appointed as a Recorder in the Crown Court. Salter served as the Chairman of the Inner Temple Scholarships Committee from 2002 to 2009 and as the Chairman of the London Common Law & Commercial Bar Association in 2004-2005. He was a member of the Bar Council from 2004 to 2013 and served as the Chairman of the Bar Council Legal Services Committee from 2010 to 2013. He is a noted commercial lawyer with a specialization in banking and financial law, having appeared in several leading English cases, including Bank Charges litigation, Belmont v BNY Corporate Trustee Services, and Goldman Sachs International v Novo Banco SA, among others. Salter has experience in courts and arbitral tribunals across common-law jurisdictions. Recognized by Chambers & Partners as a leading figure in Banking and Finance in 2012, he also sits as a Deputy High Court Judge in the King's Bench Division Commercial Court and works as an arbitrator under ICC and LCIA rules. Additionally, he has been involved in various legal initiatives and institutions, notably as a trustee for the English Touring Opera and the Oxford Law Foundation.
