Biography

Richard J. Samuels is the Ford International Professor of Political Science and the Faculty Director of the MIT-Japan Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served as the Director of the Center for International Studies and has had a significant impact on the field of political science, particularly in relation to Japanese politics, security, and international relations. He has held prominent positions including the chair of the Japan-US Friendship Commission and vice-chair of the committee for the Japan National Research Council. Currently, he is working on a project titled 'Kidnapping Politics' which explores the ramifications of captivity for political policy.
