Biography

Richard Schechter is an experienced federal prosecutor with a tenure spanning decades in U.S. Attorney’s Offices, focusing on criminal law, trial advocacy, evidentiary privileges, and professional responsibility. He has served in various roles within the Department of Justice, including Assistant U.S. Attorney and Senior Litigation Counsel. His litigation experience includes significant cases of corporate fraud and public corruption, notably as a special prosecutor in one of the largest accounting fraud trials in U.S. history. Schechter has dedicated much of his career to teaching and has instructed Assistant U.S. Attorneys at the National Advocacy Center, covering topics such as trial advocacy, evidence, and grand jury practice. He has also guest lectured at prestigious law schools including Columbia, Yale, and Stanford. Beyond his legal practice, Schechter has served as a Senior Justice Consultant for the Grace Farms Foundation, addressing human rights issues. He is a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School, where he was recognized as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
