Dr. Richard Sloan

Biography

Richard Sloan is a Professor of Accounting at USC Marshall School of Business. He holds the Deloitte Touche LLP Chair in Accounting and is a leading expert in the fields of financial statement analysis, earnings quality, and sustainability in financial reporting. His extensive research addresses the consequences of accrual quality, as well as the relevance of sustainability metrics in investment decisions. Sloan has contributed to the development of new measures for accruals quality, critically assessing the validity of existing criteria and providing a framework for future research. Notably, he has a strong focus on advising standard-setting bodies such as the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), where he has been appointed to the Advisory Council. With a background that merges practical experience in the industry with rigorous academic inquiry, Sloan guides students through complex financial analyses and ethical considerations in accounting.
