Biography

Richard St. Clair is the Head of Costume Design with over 30 years of professional experience in the field. A proud graduate of Penn State's School of Theatre, he has worked with prestigious organizations including the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Seattle Opera, and Glimmerglass Opera. Throughout his distinguished career, Richard has designed costumes for numerous productions, including the world premiere of Terrence McNally's 'GOLDEN AGE' at the Philadelphia Theatre Company and the American premiere of William Schuman's 'PHAEDRA'. He has also created costumes for significant productions such as 'MOTHER SONS' featuring Michael Learned. An accomplished designer, Richard served as the Resident Costume Designer/Costume Director for the Opera Company of Philadelphia for 26 years, working with celebrated artists like Luciano Pavarotti and Anna Netrebko. Additionally, he has contributed to major films, serving as a milliner on 'BELOVED' and as assistant designer for films including 'UNBREAKABLE' and 'HAPPENING'. Richard has also taught Costume Design at Stony Brook University, Rutgers University, and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He holds a BA from Penn State University and an MFA in Theatrical Costume Design from Temple University. Richard is a member of United Scenic Artists – local 829 and IATSE local 52 – Motion Picture Studio Mechanics.
