Biography

Richard Templer is an Emeritus Professor and Senior Research Investigator specializing in climate innovation at Imperial College London's Department of Chemistry. He holds a joint appointment with the Grantham Institute and has played a pivotal role in founding Imperial's Centre for Climate Change Innovation, known as Undaunted, in collaboration with the Royal Institution. A member of the London Sustainable Development Commission, Templer was awarded an OBE in 2015 for his contributions towards climate innovation. Since joining the Chemistry Department in 1989, he has focused on membrane biophysics and was a founding member of the Membrane Biophysics Platform. Templer shifted his focus to climate innovation in 2010, co-founding Climate-KIC, where he served as UK Director overseeing educational programs that have engaged over 2,000 students globally in sustainable innovation. His initiative, Undaunted, which launched in 2021, aims to create and support climate businesses, having raised significant funding and promoting substantial reductions in CO2 emissions and waste. He also advises various national programs in climate innovation across Europe and actively collaborates with private investors to transition towards a low-carbon society.
