Biography

Richard Wade-Martins is a Professor specializing in Molecular Neuroscience at the University of Oxford’s Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. He graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Natural Sciences, focusing on Genetics in 1995. Richard completed his DPhil at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at Oxford, followed by a Wellcome Trust Fellowship. His research at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School during a Travelling Research Fellowship enriched his expertise. Upon returning to Oxford in 2004, he began his independent research group after receiving a Wellcome Trust Research Career Development Fellowship and gained a tenured faculty position in 2013, achieving Associate Professor status in 2014 and full Professor status in 2015. His research interests include the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, utilizing human brain tissue and innovative transgenic mouse models. In addition to his role as a principal investigator at the Oxford Parkinson's Disease Centre, he contributes to various international advisory boards, including those focused on dementia and regenerative medicine, and has led significant EU-funded initiatives in the field.
