Richie Nimmo is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the same institution, awarded in 2007. His doctoral thesis focused on the posthumanist socio-material history of the British dairy industry. Following his PhD, he was fortunate to secure a fixed-term lectureship in Sociology at the University of Aberdeen before returning to Manchester, where he became a Senior Lecturer in 2018. Nimmo's research interests lie at the intersection of human-animal relations, political ecology, and the socio-ecological implications of capitalist production. His work contributes to the burgeoning posthumanist currents within sociology and related disciplines, examining the socio-material relationships between humans and nonhuman animals. He has various active projects, including a theoretical exploration of nonhuman animal labor in capitalist production and an empirical investigation of 'smart' beehives and their socio-ecological significance. Nimmo is also involved in editorial work for various journals and has served in administrative roles within the Sociology program at Manchester.
