Rick Cavicchioli is an Honorary Professor at the University of New South Wales in the Science School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science. His research primarily focuses on environmental microbiology, specifically investigating Antarctic microorganisms. His work aims to uncover the types of life that exist in Antarctica, understanding their evolution and growth in cold environments, and assessing how these microorganisms are likely to respond to ecological changes induced by climate change. He has a particular interest in Archaea, which are crucial for understanding environmental processes on Earth. His research emphasizes the significance of cold-adapted Archaea and aims to assess the impacts of human activities, including climate change, on Antarctic microbial ecosystems.
