Rick Dijkhuizen received his Ph.D. from Utrecht University in 1998, focusing on 'Magnetic Resonance Imaging Spectroscopy Experimental Cerebral Ischemia.' From 1999 to 2002, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow Instructor at the Athinoula Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard Medical School, where his research concentrated on elucidating spontaneous therapy-induced recovery in cerebrovascular injury, particularly post-stroke, utilizing MRI techniques in both patients and experimental models. In 2002, he became the head of the Biomedical MR Imaging Spectroscopy group, and in 2023, he merged it with the Neurovascular MRI group to form the Translational Neuroimaging group at the University Medical Center Utrecht. He held a Visiting Associate Professor position in the Department of Radiology at Stanford University School of Medicine from 2013 to 2014. His current research interests encompass multiparametric imaging, focusing on critical aspects of brain impairment and recovery, as well as advancing brain treatments for cerebrovascular diseases. He has received several notable awards, including the VICI award from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research in 2013 and the VIDI award in 2006.
