Biography

Rick Leong is an Associate Professor in the Visual Arts at the University of Victoria. He teaches painting and drawing, with a strong background in both disciplines. Leong earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the University of Victoria in 2003 and subsequently completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Concordia University in Montreal in 2007. His thesis work gained recognition when it was acquired by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2007. In 2008, he was a finalist in the Royal Bank of Canada's Painting Competition, which toured prominent venues including the National Gallery of Canada and the Power Plant in Toronto. Leong has participated in numerous group exhibitions, both in Canada and internationally, and has held solo exhibitions at significant venues such as the Rivers Gallery in Prince George, the Anna Leonowens Gallery in Halifax, and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. His recent exhibitions include 'Long Time See' at Bradley Ertaskiran in Montreal and 'Desire Path' in New York. He is represented by Bradley Ertaskiran and his works are included in both public and private collections, showcasing his exploration of language and landscape to examine hybridity and diverse experiences of space and place.
