Biography

Rick Nouwen is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University, specializing in the intersection of language, meaning, and communication. His research focuses on how linguistic communication occurs between humans, as well as between humans and machines. Nouwen's work is rooted in linguistic disciplines such as semantics and pragmatics, with connections to philosophy of language, cognitive science, and artificial intelligence. He is the principal investigator for several projects funded by NWO and ERC, focusing on pragmatic processes and discourse, and he leads a research group at the Language and Information Research Institute.
