Dr. Rick Richardson

Biography

Rick Richardson is a Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia. His research interests focus on the behavioral neuroscience of learning and memory, particularly how emotional experiences and early life stress influence these processes. He employs a developmental perspective, investigating the neural and pharmacological mechanisms underlying fear expression and inhibition. The overarching aim of his research is to enhance understanding of anxiety disorders and contribute to potential therapeutic approaches. His work also explores the effects of early life trauma on cognitive and emotional development, using methodologies that include behavioral analysis and neural assessments. With a background in psychology, having completed his BA, MA, and PhD at Kent State University in the USA, Professor Richardson has made significant contributions to the field, particularly in understanding the complexities of emotional learning and memory.
