Dr. Ricky Burdett

Biography

Ricky Burdett is a prominent figure in Urban Studies and serves as the Director of LSE Cities, a global center of research and teaching on urban issues. He has been instrumental in shaping urban policy and advancing urban leadership through his participation in various influential projects and initiatives. His work includes the establishment of the Urban Age program, which focuses on conducting research and organizing conferences in major metropolitan centers around the world, including cities like London, Mexico City, and Delhi. He emphasizes the importance of social equity, environmental sustainability, and good governance in urban design and planning. As a trusted advisor to city governments and organizations, Burdett has contributed significantly to the development of urban strategies for events such as the London 2012 Olympics. He is also involved in academia, holding positions as a Visiting Professor at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University and New York University. In recognition of his services to urban planning and design, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2017.
