Professor Dr. Rico Krueger

Biography

Rico Krueger is an Associate Professor in the Intelligent Transportation Systems Section within the Department of Technology, Management and Economics at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His research focuses on the development and evaluation of new models, methods, and technologies at the interface of behavioral modeling and machine learning for simulation planning and management, with the goal of improving human-centric sustainable transport systems. Rico's work includes developing and employing advanced models and algorithms along with innovative data collection methods such as immersive virtual reality to understand and predict human behavior in transport decision-making. His key application areas include travel demand forecasting, multimodal transport systems, mobility demand, emerging technologies, and sustainability, particularly health and well-being. Rico received a European Research Council Starting Grant for his project IMMERSION, which aims to explain human decision-making by combining choice process data over the period of 2024 to 2029. Prior to joining DTU, he was a postdoctoral researcher at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland and holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UNSW Sydney, Australia. His expertise aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, contributing positively to global initiatives.
