Rieneke Stelma-Roorda is an Assistant Professor in Family Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She obtained her Master's in Law (LLM) in 2015 from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a Master's in Children’s Rights (MSc) in 2016 from Queen's University Belfast, followed by another LLM in Legal Research in 2017 from the University of Groningen. Her PhD project, awarded cum laude in January 2024, focused on the Dutch 'levenstestament', an instrument enabling adults to make provisions for future incapacity. This multidisciplinary study combined legal-normative and empirical comparative research to explore the evolving role of levenstestament within national and international frameworks aimed at empowering and protecting adults with impaired capacity. Since September 2021, she has been conducting research and managing the NWA-ORC project STRIDE, which seeks a new balance between empowerment and protection for the elderly. Stelma-Roorda is also involved in various ancillary activities, such as serving as a Fellow at NSCR and as an expert for Alzheimer Nederland.
