Biography

Rik Vullings is an Associate Professor in the Signal Processing Systems group at Eindhoven University of Technology. His PhD research focused on the analysis and interpretation of non-invasively recorded fetal electrocardiograms to aid in the timely assessment of fetal distress, which has led to the establishment of a spin-off company, Nemo Healthcare, where he serves as co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer. In 2012, Vullings was awarded a VENI grant to continue his research on pregnancy monitoring at TU/e. His research interests include biomedical signal processing, modeling, machine learning, and pattern recognition, with main applications in perinatology, cardiology, and somnology. He emphasizes developing model-driven approaches for medical signal processing interpretation, creating robust methods vital for monitoring critical signs in increasingly intrusive devices.
