Biography

Rikke Vestergaard is a PhD student at the University of Copenhagen with a focus on elucidating the geological evolution and significance of the Paleoproterozoic Ketilidian orogen in South Greenland. Her research combines detailed spatial, chemical, and chronological studies, including U-Pb-O-Hf zircon work, to provide a thorough geochemical petrogenetic investigation of the region's formation and evolution. Rikke began her PhD project in February 2020 under the supervision of Tod Waight, with an expected thesis submission in January 2023. In addition to her research, she has served as a Teaching Assistant for four courses and has mentored an MSc student. Rikke has also been an active committee member of the Early Career Association, which aims to improve the well-being and integration of young researchers in the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management. Her academic qualifications include a Master's degree in geology from Aarhus University and a Bachelor's degree in geology from the same institution, with a semester abroad at the University of Iceland. Rikke's past research includes studying volcanic landforms and lava eruption dynamics at Hekla volcano in Iceland, where she employed remote sensing data and petrology geochemistry to illuminate eruption histories and volcanic hazards.
