Biography

Dr. Rinke Stienstra received his MSc degree in Human Nutrition from Wageningen University in 2002. He subsequently earned his PhD in Nutrition Metabolism from Wageningen University in 2007 under the guidance of Professors Sander Kersten and Michael Muller. Following his PhD, he underwent postdoctoral training and moved to the Department of Internal Medicine at Radboud University Medical Centre in Nijmegen, Netherlands, where he was supervised by Professors Cees Tack and Mihai Netea. In 2010, he was appointed at Wageningen University and Radboud UMC, where he works on the close interplay between metabolism and immunity, with a particular interest in the development of obesity-induced adipose tissue inflammation.
