Dr. Risako Shirane

Biography

Risako Shirane, MD, MSc, is a board-certified neurologist and headache specialist with a commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals suffering from recurring chronic headaches. Currently serving as an assistant professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Shirane teaches medical students, neurology residents, and fellows. She is passionate about expanding access to effective treatments for headache disorders and actively advocates for greater understanding of these conditions. Her medical training began at Kobe University School of Medicine in Japan, followed by a neurology residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She further honed her expertise through a headache medicine fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Shirane is actively involved in scholarly activities, serving on the editorial board of 'Headache', the official journal of the American Headache Society, and has been recognized with an Alpha Omega Alpha honor. Dr. Shirane is engaged in global healthcare initiatives aimed at alleviating the burden of headache disorders worldwide, collaborating with organizations such as the World Health Organization.
