Biography

Rishad Irani joined Carleton University in January 2016 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Aerospace Engineering. He previously served as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Rolls-Royce Canada Limited, focusing on Naval Marine applications. He earned his PhD and MASc in Mechanical Engineering from Dalhousie University and his BASc from the University of Windsor. His current research interests lie in multi-domain modeling, particularly in mechatronic applications and advanced automated launch recovery systems in marine environments. Dr. Irani's research is designed to enhance the safety and operational availability of maritime vessels through advancements in control algorithms, system modeling, and robotic actuation. He has previously collaborated with various organizations, including WHOI, MDA Space Mission, DaimlerChrysler, and Siemens Automotive. He actively seeks graduate students for research in dynamic analysis and marine system modeling.
