Dr. Rita Nguyen

Biography

Dr. Rita Nguyen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Saskatchewan. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Regina and earned her medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Nguyen completed her neurosurgery residency at the University of Calgary, where she specialized in neuroinflammation and traumatic brain injury. She further pursued a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery through the tri-institutional program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medicine, Columbia University, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Her clinical interests encompass both pediatric and adult neurosurgery, with a particular focus on pediatric neuro-oncology and the management of brain and spinal cord tumors in children. Additionally, she is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrospinal fluid circulation disorders and is experienced in endoscopic shunt-based procedures. Dr. Nguyen also maintains a keen interest in adult brain tumors, gliomas, and general cranial and spinal neurosurgical care. Her research interests align with her clinical focus, centered on neuroimmunology as it relates to pediatric brain tumors and neurobiology. Dr. Nguyen is delighted to return home to Saskatchewan and is committed to enhancing pediatric neurosurgical care for children and families in the province. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family.
