Rob Bastiaans is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He serves as the Chairman of the Dutch Section of the Combustion Institute and leads the workgroup on Fuel Flexibility Emissions at the European Turbine Network (ETN). His teaching focuses on mechanical engineering, particularly the modeling of combustion in sustainable energy sources. His expertise encompasses fluid mechanics, modeling and simulations, computational fluid dynamics, numerical simulation, and numerical analysis. His current research significantly revolves around performance in flamelet generated manifolds (FGM) in premixed turbulent conditions, including measurements of burning velocities using heat flux methods and pre-assumed PDF's in large eddy simulations (LES) for combustion. He is involved in upcoming projects that explore complex diffusion combustion design. Rob holds a master's degree with honors in aero-acoustics and a PhD in direct numerical simulation (DNS) and large eddy simulation (LES) of transitional turbulent buoyant convection flows derived from experiments. He has contributed to research using experimental particle techniques and has developed new image analysis software for flow quantification. In addition to his role at TU/e, he is a senior visiting professor at the Center for Turbulence Research (CTR) at Stanford University and serves as the treasurer for the Dutch section of the Combustion Institute and the International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF).
